We'll let you know when there are new amazing features
Geometry-based tracking
Animate 3D models by matching the motion of real-world objects
in 2D footage
Camera Tracking
Recover camera motion by aligning static objects or environment models (like LiDAR)
3D Layout
Match your 3D scene to footage using tracked geometry
Fast Animation for FX
Turn tracked objects into colliders and emitters for simulations
Head Tracking
Create custom heads in FaceBuilder
and track them as rigid objects
Focal Length Estimation
Automatically calculate lens data when camera parameters are unknown
Zoom Tracking
Track focal length changes automatically
Native OBJ & Solaris Workflow
Built as a SOP node, so it works natively in both OBJ and Solaris. Import and export cameras in both contexts
How to Start
— For project examples, you can visit our examples page
System Requirements
— Houdini: 20.5 or newer
— OS: 64-bit Windows, macOS (Intel/Apple Silicon) or Linux
— Graphics: A decent GPU that can handle Houdini
— I have an idea, feedback or bug report
If you’ve found a bug or want to share your thoughts, please fill out this form. Alternatively, you can always reach us at team@keentools.io.
— How long is the Beta period?
Each Beta version is valid for 30 days. We will keep releasing regular updates until the stable version is ready.
— What is the minimum Houdini version required?
Houdini 20.5 or newer is required.
Setup
— How to install the plugin?
Place the contents of the downloaded ZIP file into your Houdini packages directory:
– Windows: C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\houdiniXX.X\packages\
– macOS: ~/Library/Preferences/houdini/XX.X/packages/
– Linux: ~/houdiniXX.X/packages/
If the ‘packages’ folder doesn’t exist, simply create it. Check out our video guide for a step-by-step walkthrough.— How to update or remove the Beta?
To update, delete the previously added files and replace them with the new ones. To uninstall, simply delete those files. There is no auto-updater for the Beta version yet.
— I downloaded a DMG file on macOS, where are the files?
Double-click the DMG file to mount it – you will find the installation files inside. Use them as described in the guide above.
Tracking
— Do I need a 3D model to track with GeoTracker?
Yes, GeoTracker is a geometry-based tracker, so you’ll need a 3D model to start. You can use any model imported or created in your Houdini scene. By the way, if you don’t have a model, you can quickly generate one from your footage using tools like SAM 3D.
— How detailed should my 3D model be?
More detail usually leads to better results, but balance is key. Very high-poly models can be resource-heavy.
— Does the 3D model need to perfectly match the real object?
Ideally, yes. However, GeoTracker is smart enough to track a car using a simple cube. Primitives work great when precision isn't critical.
— Can GeoTracker handle occlusions or reflections?
Yes. To handle complex shots with heavy occlusions, you can use Surface Masks to exclude specific areas of your model from the tracking.
— Do I need markers for tracking?
No, you don't need anything like that. But having markers can improve tracking results because they'll work as distinct features that are easy to follow.
